Confirmed: New Call of Duty main game in late 2020

Activision Blizzard has anticipated that the next installment corresponding to this year will be launched this last quarter of 2020; They do not confirm study.

Activision Blizzard has confirmed in its last financial meeting (Q4 / FY2019) the development of the new main installment of the Call of Duty saga for the last quarter of 2020. The company, which has made a very positive balance of the performance of Call of Duty : Modern Warfare by beating its historical record of players in 2019, is already underway the next great movement for the license.

We do not know if it will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X as an intergenerational game

The information is very brief at the moment, since the meeting with shareholders has focused more on taking stock of the last months than talking about what will happen in the future. The next generation of consoles already has a name and surname: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X by Sony and Microsoft, respectively; a scenario similar to 2013, where the delivery of that year (Call of Duty: Ghost) was launched intergenerationally (PS3, Xbox 360, PS4 and Xbox One).

Not surprisingly, we do not know what study of the three participants in the development of the saga is taking care of this new iteration. Presumably, it will not be Infinity Ward, which did the same in 2019 with CoD: Modern Warfare; it would be the turn of Sledgehammer Games if the rotation policy of this last decade is maintained. The other candidate study is, according to this logic susceptible to being altered, Treyarch, responsible for the Black Ops series and who would return, in any case, in 2021.

Treyarch sounds loud for a possible Black Ops 5

Different information not officially confirmed indicate (via insiders) that Treyarch would be the studio in charge of the Call of Duty video game for 2020, however. A change of mind within the high spheres of Activision Blizzard prefers, according to various sources, that Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software act as participants in the development of a hypothetical Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 led by Treyarch.

The need for high human capital to develop this title, which will be intergenerational, would require a total effort on the part of all expert studies in intellectual property. After the great commercial performance of Black Ops 4, there is even talk of a change in the business model where you would bet on a business model based on the game as a service (free with a multitude of integrated shopping options).

However, we insist: Call of Duty 2020 will leave between the months of October, November and December. It has no definitive name, no date, neither platforms nor confirmed studies.
