Disco Elysium, in development for Nintendo Switch

The award-winning ZA / UM RPG was planned for consoles, but the version for the Kyoto hybrid had not yet been announced.

Disco Elysium has just received three of the seven statuettes that it chose in the BAFTA Games Awards, granted by the British Academy of Cinematographic Arts. The award-winning RPG, awarded for best debut game, as well as for its soundtrack and narrative, will not be exclusive to PC. It was already confirmed that it would arrive on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (and translated into Spanish), but it has just been revealed that ZA / UM is also working on a port for Nintendo Switch.

This was explained by director Aleksander Rostov in an interview broadcast on the Game One podcast, which is part of the BBC 5live grid. According to Rostov, the team is working on adapting the interface and the layout of the documents to the portable device. "This interview, at the moment, is preventing me from writing and designing the documents for the interface of the Switch port," said the director jokingly. Helen Hindpere, narrative manager of the project, added the following: "It will happen soon."

No release date

Beyond that, no one on the team has mentioned a launch window. Disco Elysium initially came out on PC, while versions of the Sony and Microsoft consoles are projected for 2020, but do not have a more specific date yet. It is unknown whether or not the Switch version will be released at the same time.

Disco Elysium is an RPG that relies, above all, on its narrative. Unlike other RPGs, it does not have combat, but everything is based on dialogues and decisions, which branch the main plot and the fate of its protagonists. When it came out on PC, one of the biggest barriers was the language, since today it is not translated into Spanish. Given the nature of the project, it is absolutely necessary to understand each of the lines of dialogue.
