Dragon Ball turns 35 since its first appearance in Shonen Jump

Akira Toriya's famous manga was born on a day like today of 1984 in the 51st issue of the Japanese magazine Shonen Jump; curiosities of the cover.

Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama's famous manga, celebrates today, November 20, 2019, its 35th anniversary since its original publication in the Japanese magazine Weekly Shonen Jump with the mythical cover of Goku and Bulma of number 51 of said publication. A very special date for the millions of fans of the adventures of Goky and company that debuted with great success on November 20, 1984.

More than three decades of adventures

Dragon Ball presented us with a fantastic world in which a boy with a tail, Goku, showed his own strength from another world; And so it was. Already in its first pages we discovered something more of its origins while crossing an impetuous young woman in her path in search of the mysterious dragon balls, Bulma. From there, endless adventures followed with as many characters coming directly from the creative mind of Akira Toriyama.

After the original story of Goku and company came Dragon Ball Z, the adult phase of such famous characters with increasingly powerful enemies through different plot arcs. The series would close in 1995 after 42 volumes and 518 chapters. Together with One Piece, it is the best-selling manga series in history with more than 250 million volumes sold.

And since we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the original Dragon Ball publication, what better way to pay homage to the cover of number 51 of Shonen Jump, an edition that hides a small peculiarity, as they collect through SelectaVisión. And it is that as you can see, it appears as a publication date on December 3 (12/3), although the magazine was distributed weeks before so that it could reach fans from all corners of Japan. Therefore, it was established on November 20 as the date of the first edition of Dragon Ball, the day it reached the hands of the first readers.
