Koei Tecmo and Gust have released more gameplay details on 'Fairy Tale' and the magical powers in it. Based on the eponymous anime and manga of Hiro Mashima, players can follow the enchanting storyline of the popular Tenrou Island bow to the Tartaros bow with all its new original sequences.

In Fairy Tale, Natsu and the team fight against a multitude of enemies to become number 1 in Fiore. Battle parties consist of up to five mages, so fans' favorite characters can band together into impressive magical attacks displayed on a three-by-three board. Each turn deals a certain amount of damage to the tiles. By choosing suitable attacks, a quick victory over annoying opponents can be achieved. By causing damage, players fill up the "Fairy Gauge". With this special "magic chain" attack, each member of the group can perform a combination of attacks before releasing a powerful finisher. Sometimes strong characters like beloved guild leader Makarov can even step in and wreak havoc with their Extreme Magic.

If the ally's group suffers heavy damage and is in dire straits, characters can awaken dormant abilities for a few turns, dramatically increasing their powers. Some mages even have access to completely new attacks – Dragon Slayer can use Dragon Power instead of their Awakened abilities, while some magicians can do a "mode change" that offers a wealth of new combat options. Natsu's famous "Lightning Fire Dragon's Iron Fist" is an example of the improved abilities that can be performed. Some mages are even able to band together into powerful combination attacks known as the "Unison Raid", triggering a special "Unison Raid" scene before triggering the incredible attack on oncoming opponents.

To help in the fight, GUST Studios announced five new playable characters – not from Fairy Tale, but from rival guilds in Fiore. Among the new characters are the "Sky God Conqueror" Sherria Blendy of Lamia Scale, the "Strongest Fencer" Kagura Mikazuchi of Mermaid Heel, the "Pretty" Blue Pegasus magician Ichiya Vandalay Kotobuki and the "White Dragon" Sting Eucliffe and the " Shadow Dragon "Rogue Cheney of Sabertooth. These exciting new additions to the cast will be complemented by previously announced Natsu Dragneel, Lucy Heartfilia, Erza Scarlet, Wendy Marvell, Gajeel Redfox and Juvia Lockser – all ready to fight with powerful magical abilities. With more than 12 playable characters, players with FAIRY TAIL members and their rivals can form a dream team and embark on an adventure like never before.

Fairy Tale will be released in spring 2020.
