Fantasian could be Uematsu’s last full work, according to Final Fantasy’s father

Fantasian could be Uematsu's last full work, according to Final Fantasy's father

The legendary composer has created 60 pieces of music for Hironoku Sakaguchi’s new title, due out on Apple Arcade.

Nobuo Uematsu is in all probability the best-known composer in video games, a musician who has accompanied many of the heroes of the Final Fantasy saga. Although he left Square Enix years ago, he still continues to collaborate with the Japanese company, as well as with Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of this saga and now in Mistwalker. On the occasion of the launch of Fantasian, his new production, the Japanese creative has made some disturbing statements. And it is that in an interview with Mobile Syrup he has commented that this may be the last complete soundtrack signed by Uematsu.

“Before we contacted him to work on Fantasian, he was going through a number of health issues, so there were concerns about whether he would be able to compose everything or whether he would even be able to work on this,” says Sakaguchi. “In the end, Uematsu has managed to compose the 60 orchestral pieces of the entire set,” he continues.

Won’t say goodbye to loose pieces

According to Sakaguchi, this collaboration is very important to them, as the composition of the orchestral soundtrack may be an obstacle for Uematsu from now on. “I think he’s kind of anticipated that Fantasian might be his last game from start to finish,” that is, the one in which he writes all the musical pieces. The developer points out even so that everything seems to indicate that he will continue composing individual songs, as in the case of Final Fantasy VII Remake, since its main theme, Hollow, is written by him. “Fantasian could be his last recording.”

The good news is that Nobuo Uematsu “has put all his heart and soul” into this new job. “For me, when I heard it, it almost made me cry a little, because it was a great moment for their careers.”

Fantasian is in development for iOS devices like iPhone or iPad. It will be part of Apple Arcade, the apple company’s game subscription service.
