The FIA has unveiled a €7,500 Rally2‑WRC kit that will let Rally2 cars race beside the new WRC27 machines in 2027 and 2028.
Rally2 Cars Get New Upgrade Pathway
Only Rally2 vehicles homologated before 31 December 2026 may install the kit, which comprises new front fenders, a front bumper, and a rear aerodynamic device.
Conforming cars will weigh 1,220 kg in total, a figure set to keep the balance between the older Rally2 chassis and the newer, cost‑capped WRC27 platform.
Kit Specs and Eligibility Rules
During the first year of homologation, a constructor must enter every WRC event and launch at least two cars per rally to secure the kit’s validity.
Each kit grants a single joker for bodywork parts, and only one kit extension is allowed per Rally2 homologation file during the 2027‑2028 period.
Why the Change Matters for the WRC
WRC27 vehicles cost no more than €345,000 and rely heavily on Rally2 components; the kit seeks to neutralise aerodynamic advantages that could arise between the two families.
By expanding the allowed field, the FIA hopes to deepen competition and deliver a more intense spectacle for fans.
