Like other companies in the industry, Electronic Arts has supported the movement, also with anti-racism measures in its titles.
Since the murder of George Floyd by police officers in the United States, the country ruled by Donald Trump has staged massive protests against racism and against police brutality. In this context, video game companies have not stayed on the sidelines and have announced various actions to defend the movement. After Infinity Ward and Activision added a message in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, EA Sports has decided to do the same with FIFA 20.
The message states that racial discrimination against the African American and black community is strongly entrenched in the United States. “It is unacceptable,” they point out. The company rejects racism and wants to banish this endemic evil, since “it should not exist in our society”, while lending its support to the people who fight against it.
A similar message has appeared in Ultimate Team. EA Sports has taken up one of the Premier League’s anti-racism slogans, “No Room for racism,” in its literal translation.

Specific measures in FIFA 20
EA Sports wasted no time in announcing a battery of measures to eliminate racism from FIFA 20. To start with, they have updated their filters in several languages, while adding more ingame tools to expand reporting options and “make it easier and intuitive to be able to report toxic behaviors ”. Their teams will also do so “with a view to removing content and those who offend.”
The developer acknowledges that there is a “high volume of toxic behaviors” in their video games, so they have “increased the frequency of reviews”, in order to “act faster” and eliminate comments more effectively. Finally, they promise to dedicate more resources “exclusively to this topic”.
FIFA 20 is available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
