Final Fantasy VII Remake: its producer explains what the classic combat mode will be like

The reimagined version of the original Squaresoft will incorporate various options to adapt the combat according to the user's profile.

Rebuilding a cult title is not a simple task, especially when the mechanics of the past are played. But with Final Fantasy VII Remake, the developers have decided to modify the formula to adapt it to the times. That has become the goodbye of the turn-based combat system of the PlayStation era. Instead, the fight has been implemented in real time, but with nuances. Yoshinori Kitase, producer of the video game, has explained how one of its modalities works, the so-called Classic Mode.

He has done, as usual, in a video posted on the official Twitter account of the video game. According to the tweet, this is a way designed for those who prefer a more similar approach to the system in turn of the classic. And Kitase says: "When we taught Final Fantasy VII Remake on June E3, there were many people online who did not give very good action games and were very worried that it was much more focused on action," he recalls.

“The classic mode has been created to erase all those concerns. Virtually automates all the elements of action ”, such as“ Cloud movements ”or standard attacks. Thus, the player should only worry about choosing ATB commands, such as magic. "It's a way that the original players will enjoy a lot," he concludes.

It is respect to the original, the basis of the remake

In a recent article, the co-director of the title, Naoki Hamaguchi, has expressed his feelings when designing the remake. According to the developer, he has always followed an important maxim: "Respect the original." Despite the changes, the work must be based on the basis of the classic, so that it feels "new but familiar."

Final Fantasy VII Remake will release its first episode on March 3, 2020, exclusively for PS4. The development of the next installment has already begun, although no launch window has been specified. What is confirmed is that each of the parts will be the equivalent of a complete game, since the study has completed the gaps of history with new narrative arcs.
