Final Fantasy VII Remake will not include characters from Compilation of Final Fantasy VII

Tetsuya Nomura confirms that the title will exclude faces belonging to other derivative works such as Advent Children and Crisis Core.

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake will not include any characters corresponding to the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series, the set of products derived from the original video game where movies, books and even spin-off video games are found; to highlight, names like Crisis Core (PSP) or Advent Children (DVD).

The following paragraphs include a disclosure that can be considered spoiler; not about the original game but for content that we will see in FF VII Remake.

There is only one exception: the novel ‘The Kids Are Alright’

Tetsuya Nomura, director of the long-awaited title for PS4, has advanced the news in a recent meeting with the Famitsu media, thus resolving any glimpse of speculation or rumorology about it: there will be no material from Compilation of Final Fantasy VII.

Although they have recognized that the nature of the remake makes the product susceptible to being modified in some aspects (for example, with new side missions that promise will live up to the main story), there will be no material from derivative novels or other titles set before and after the PlayStation game, which is what this project is based on.

There is an exception, however, because they believe it is necessary to understand the plot well: the novel ‘Final Fantasy VII The Kids Are Alright: A Turk Side Story’, published in 2011 only in Japan under the authorship of Kazushige Nojima; although in 2018 an English translation was officially published by Yen Press. From this book will appear characters that were not, of course, in the 1997 game.

During these last hours the actuality of the game has not stopped. Square Enix has confirmed, in the voice of producer Atsushi Inaba, that they initially intended to include a combat system similar to Kingdom Hearts, but Tetsuya Nomura ruled it out.
