Final Fantasy XVI opens website and details the protagonists and kingdoms

The new Square Enix production will offer new information about the video game in 2021, but we already have some news.

Several years have passed since the last major installment in the quintessential Square Enix RPG saga. Final Fantasy XVI was announced as a PS5 exclusive, a title that was introduced through a trailer and that has now opened its website with new details about the world and characters. The story will take place in Valisthea, a place where crystals will have great influence. Everyone seeks his blessing, with the goal of being able to use magic to live comfortably. However, times of peace are about to end and war is already on the horizon.

Eikons are the most powerful and deadly creatures in Valisthea. Each resides within a Dominant, a man or woman who has been blessed with the ability to summon and use their powers. In some nations, these Dominants are treated with respect and admiration, while in other cases they are simply viewed as weapons of war. None of them can escape their destiny, whatever it may be.

The kingdoms of Valisthea

The Grand Duchy of Rosaria

Long ago, an independent group of provinces west of Valisthea found the strength of unity and formed this duchy. After years of relative prosperity, the duchy is threatened by the expansion of the Scourge, which can doom the duchy to utter ruin. Rosaria feeds on the Dragon’s Breath Mother Crystal, located on a volcanic island. The Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of fire, will be enthroned as a duke when he reaches the age to do so. Their territories begin to suffer from the extension of the Stygian lands, a phenomenon that threatens to consume all their domains.

The Holy Empire of Sanbreque

Sambreque is the most powerful confessional force in Valisthea. The capital is called Oriflamme and it is built near Dragon Head, the Mother Crystal that blesses the area. People take advantage of it and live safely and comfortably under the gaze of the Holy Emperor, whom they admire as if he were a deity. The Dominant serves as the Emperor’s champion.

The Kingdom of Waloed

Waloed controls Cenicia, the eastern part of Valisthea. The control of the kingdom in the content has been routinely put to the test by the orcs and bestialides that live in the area, but the current ruler, a Dominant, has managed to crush all attempts at rebellion. He uses his powers thanks to the Mother Crystal (Dragon Column), he has been crowned as the new king and now he tries to find weaknesses in the defenses of his neighbors.

The Republic of Dhalnekia

The Republic of Dhalnekia is made up of five states, each governed by its own parliament. His Mother Crystal, Dragon Fang, is half hidden in the heart of the mountain. Meanwhile, the republic controls the southern part of the territory, with the Dominant of the Titan, the Eikon of Earth, at its service. He acts as an advisor to the parliament, so his opinions are taken into account.

The Kingdom of Iron

A small group of islands off the coast of Tormentia, the western half of the twin kingdoms of Valisthea. An extreme faith in crystals reigns here. They control the Dragon’s Breath, a Mother Crystal located on one of their islands, which has been a retaining wall against Rosaria. Isolated from other nations, they speak their own language. Orthodox doctrine sees the dominant as abominations, for which they are executed.

The Crystalline Domain

It is located in the center of Valisthea and built around the largest Mother Crystal, La Cola del Dragób. There were fierce struggles to control these lands, very important from the strategic point of view, although an armistice finally took place. As part of the peace agreement, the islands around the Dragon’s Tail became independent dominions governed by a council of representatives of the neighboring nations. Each of them can enjoy proportionally the blessings of the Mother Crystal. There are no Dominants here.

Confirmed characters

Clive rosfield

The first-born son of the Archduke of Rosaria. Although everyone expected him to wake up as Dominant, it was his little brother, Joshua, who had that honor. In search of his place in the world, Clive spends his days becoming a master swordsman. At the age of 15, he wins the ducal tournament and is named First Shield of Rosaria, for which he must guard the Phoenix. All in all, a confrontation against Ifrit will lead him to seek the path of revenge.

Joshua Rosfield

The second son of the Archduke of Rosaria and Clive’s younger brother is 10 years old. He is the Dominant of the Phoenix from practically his birth. Despite his high birth, Joshua treats his subjects with kindness, as does Clive, whom he admires with all his soul. He often laments that it was he, a person who considers himself fragile, who was blessed by the powers of fire. You must soon change your attitude, as a tragic incident will change your motivations forever.

Jill warrick

Born in the northern territories, Jill was uprooted from her homelands to become a guardian of Rosaria, whose mission is to ensure peace between the two nations. The Archduke insists that he be raised alongside his children, and now, at 12 years of age, he is part of the Rosield household. He is a confidant of both brothers.

Final Fantasy XVI is in development exclusively for PlayStation 5. There is currently no release date, although the next important information will be released in 2021.
