Franco Morbidelli Secures Ducati’s Dream WSBK Seat: Trust Is Clear

Franco Morbidelli on securing most coveted WSBK ride: 'Clearly Ducati has some trust in me'

Franco Morbidelli has departed MotoGP to join Ducati’s factory World Superbike team, trading championships with Nicolo Bulega who will enter MotoGP with VR46 next season.

Morbidelli acknowledged that his recent run in VR46’s MotoGP lineup failed to spark the confidence that crowned him a three‑time winner in 2020, and that his declining showing left him without a 2027 contract. Yet Ducati secured him for the Superbike campaign, expressing faith in his potential.

The rider expressed gratitude: “I’m happy about the chance I got from Ducati. They believe in what I can bring, and I’m grateful.” He added that the upcoming Indonesian Grand Prix will feature his bike in a special Garuda‑themed livery, and that he will leverage his Michelin experience as Superbikes transition to Mitsubishi rubber next season.

General manager Gigi Dall’Igna’s comments were echoed by Morbidelli, who said he agreed with the manager’s words. “I will bring my speed and experience with Michelin,” he stated, recalling two years in MotoGP where he fought for victories.

Meanwhile, Nicolo Bulega’s move to VR46 marks his full‑time MotoGP debut. The switch aligns with Ducati’s double‑capable roster for the season, allowing Morbidelli to fill the factory Superbike seat while Bulega repurposes the talent back to MotoGP.

Maverick Vinales, another MotoGP racer, remained hesitant about a similar transition, stating he had not yet given up on MotoGP aspirations.

With the Indonesian round still weeks away, Ducati’s dual‑series strategy underscores its commitment to maintaining top machinery on both the Superbike and MotoGP grids.
