Frogwares skeptical about 60 guaranteed FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X

The study hopes that they will become a standard, but also warns that this refresh rate is not easy for the studies nor will it be.

Sergey Oganesyan, head of communication for Frogwares, a studio with more than twenty years of experience in the sector and heads of The Sinking City, has been hopeful that he can count on a 60 FPS standard in the next generation of consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X, although he warns that it will not be easy.

"I think more and more developers will give the choice between resolution or frame rate per second," he begins by saying in his recent meeting with WCCFTech. I personally hope that 60 FPS will become the standard, but optimization is not an easy thing, especially for small studios, ”he says. The power of the next consoles from Sony and Microsoft is something that has become clear from knowing their final technical specifications; as well as its speed, with SSD memories that surprise the development studies themselves.

“We are excited to be able to switch to much faster storage now like SSDs. For open worlds, it's a lifesaver, ”he continues, adding that it will also save them a lot of time. Regarding the change or the famous graphic “jump” between current home consoles and those that will go on sale this Christmas, Frogwares does not expect an abysmal or extremely significant jump because “intergenerational games will last for a while” .

In fact, Microsoft has already ensured that the first year of Xbox Series X's life will feature all Xbox Game Studios releases under an intergenerational model; that is to say, they will go on sale on Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Where we do not know how to act in this regard is Sony, which until now has not confirmed or hinted at a possible intergenerational version of Ghost of Tsushima or The Last of Us Part II, the two most important titles in the PS4 catalog for the rest of 2020.
