Gamescom continues planning the fair: for now, it is not canceled

The organization recalls that the authorities' measures are planned until April, so in principle they will not affect the event.

Gamescom, the most powerful video game fair in Europe, confirms that it is continuing with its plans to hold the event on schedule. And all this despite the fact that the coronavirus crisis (COVID-19) continues to escalate. The actions taken by the Cologne city council prohibit the holding of any activity in which more than 1000 people gather. However, this package of measures is scheduled until April 10, so that in principle they will not affect Gamescom, which will take place in August. Through a statement on social networks, the organization has reported that they will be aware of the evolution of the crisis.

As they explain, they have received numerous messages of concern about the state of the fair. Gamescom ensures that everything that is happening is taken very seriously, so the health of visitors and professionals is their number 1 priority. "We are not currently affected by the decree," they said in the statement. This is so because the time limit only runs until April, although it cannot be ruled out that it may be extended any longer. "Still, we will follow the recommendations of the responsible authorities in regard to major events," they say. They will evaluate the evolution daily and will make the corresponding decisions in a thoughtful way.

Everything is still going

"Gamescom 2020 preparation continues as planned, based on the current situation." However, if canceled or postponed, the money for the tickets will be duly refunded and the voucher codes will no longer be valid, although they will be available for future events again.

Gamescom will be held in the city of Cologne, as every year, from August 25 to 29 of the same month.

As the coronavirus crisis has been growing, governments are taking steps to avoid a situation of mass contagion. Spain announced the application of the state of alarm, while Germany has made the decision to close the borders with countries such as France, Austria, Switzerland or Luxembourg.
