THQ Nordic gives the green light to the project after trying its luck with a conceptual demo that will eventually result in a video game.
Barcelona will host the development of Gothic Remake, the revamped version of this classic German RPG. This was confirmed by THQ Nordic, which acquired the rights of the saga along with the study, Pyranha Bytes. Through a press release, the company has reported that the project will be carried out, after the conceptual demo they launched last year met their expectations.
THQ Nordic will establish a new studio in Barcelona, which will be dedicated to designing the product for the new generation and for the PC. "We are ready for the challenge to develop a complete remake of Gothic, which will remain as faithful as possible to the original experience" and will refurbish "the atmospheric world of Gothic" with new graphics and mechanics "carefully modernized", explains the company.
The playable teaser, a success
Two months have passed since the launch of the playable teaser, which was used to collect comments and feedback from the players. According to THQ Nordic, the response has been unanimous. "Fans are prepared to see a new 'old' Gothic," they comment in the note posted on their website. "The vast majority (94.8%), was in favor" of developing a new version of the classic.
“More than 180,000 users have played teaser so far. On the afternoon of February 16, 2020, THQ Nordic withdrew the survey ”and dedicated itself to dump the results. “With more than 43,000 responses” and “more than 9,000 analyzes on Steam”, as well as several debates “on social networks”, the company already had enough data to proceed.
When will it go on sale? At the moment there is no decided launch window. It is known that it will be developed for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X and will not be released in 2020, as the statement says. Beyond that, impatient players will have to wait until the new studio based in the City advances their task.
