Surprisingly, THQ Nordic published a playable prototype for ‘Gothic’ in January to explore interest in a potential remake.
The response was so positive and great that it was quickly decided that a remake would actually be set up – and not just for the PC, but also for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, as was later confirmed.
“We are ready to take on the challenge of developing a complete Gothic remake that remains as true to the original experience as possible, giving the atmospheric world of Gothic a high-quality look and carefully modernizing certain game mechanics.”
For the implementation, a new studio will be built in Barcelona, where the Gothic remake will go into full production. So far, there are no further details or even material from the game. By switching to Unreal Engine 4, however, you promise that Gothic will be completely re-created from a technical point of view, i.e. a real remake that does justice to modern standards.
