Sony's ‘Gran Turismo Sport’ is going full throttle again this year and is looking forward to the upcoming start of the FIA Gran Turismo Championships 2020 in Sidney. There is also a new player record.
The highlights of the World Championship around the racing simulation Gran Turismo Sport for PlayStation 4 are again the World Tour Events, in which the best drivers from all over the world compete live.
The start of this season is the World Tour Event in Sidney, Australia. Tomorrow Saturday, February 15th, the driver teams will compete in the Manufacturer Series for various car manufacturers. However, on Sunday, February 16, the Nations Cup players will represent their home country.
Fans who want to watch the races live stream must get up early on the weekend: Both races take place from 6 a.m. to 8.30 a.m.CET. For racing enthusiasts who want to sleep late at the weekend, both races will be streamed again from 8 p.m. All information about the FIA GT Championships, the participants and the racing procedures can be found on the official event page.
What are the Gran Turismo Championships?
The FIA GT Championships consist of two racing series: the “Nations Cup”, in which individual drivers compete for their country, and the “Manufacturers Series”, in which the drivers each represent a car manufacturer. In both series, players collect points through scheduled online races in order to increase their regional and global ranking.
The highlights of the GT Championships are the so-called “World Tour Events”: elaborate live events at various locations around the world, where the best drivers compete and fight for the world championship title. After the start of this year's tour in Paris in March, the second World Tour Event for the 24-hour race will be held at the Nürburgring, before going to New York and Tokyo.
Over 8 million players
On the occasion of the start of the 2020 season, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi also announced a new record in the number of players. So now there are 8.2 million games, which is another 1.2 million additional players over the past year alone. It is not known exactly where the sales figures of GT Sport are.
