Half-Life Alyx: minimum requirements revealed

The official video game page on Steam realizes the computer we will need to move the new Valve video game

Half-Life is back, but not with the expected third installment, but with a virtual reality video game set in the universe created by Valve. The company, also the owner of Steam, announced Half-Life: Alyx through a trailer and revealed the first details about the title and its creative process. We know that it will be compatible with all the virtual reality systems that work on PCs, but now the requirements that we will have to fulfill in order to enjoy this new experience are also uncovered:

Minimum requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 10

  • Processor: Core i5-7500 / Ryzen 5 1600

  • Memory: 12 GB of RAM

  • Graphics: GTX 1060 / RX 580 – 6GB VRAM

In the absence of knowing the recommended requirements, we can already get an idea about the PC that we will need to operate Half-Life: Alyx. The game was born as a virtual reality title before even the developers decided to take this license. In fact, they report in an interview with Geoff Keighley, who initially shuffled two sagas: Half-Life and Portal. However, this last franchise did not quite fit, because they feared that their game structure could cause dizziness in the players.

Thus, things determined that the Half-Life formula would work better, since it combines exploration, puzzles and moments of action. The studio thought about performing a virtual reality game would help create a sense of immersion. As an example, they put something as everyday as opening a door. In doing so with his hands, with his own body, the player opens a door and can observe through the hole as if he were present. You also have the possibility to shoot through the crack and kill enemies in a heartbeat.

Half-Life Alyx will be released in March 2020 exclusively for Steam. Valve Index users, their virtual reality device, will receive the video game completely free.
