Heróes de Papel announces a book dedicated to Satoshi Kon, legend of Japanese anime

The journalist and critic Álvaro Arbonés is the author of this volume, which will arrive in several different editions and with special extras.

The publisher Héroes de Papel continues to bet on essays on video games, anime and other topics related to pop culture. Satoshi Kon is one of the most important creators of Japanese animation, an author who has managed to cross Japanese borders and succeed in the West with works such as Paprika or Perfect Blue. The Andalusian publishing house has just unveiled the publication of Satoshi Kon: The gaze of an author, a book that tries “not only to describe the artist’s entire career”, but also “to understand what his traits and obsessions were”.

The book is written by Pablo Arbonés, a journalist and cultural critic with a background in philosophy, who has already edited another volume under the label of Paper Heroes (You (don’t) need to be a hero. Neon Genesis Evangelion). As reported by Heroes de Papel in a press release, it will go on sale on November 11, both in bookstores and in large stores. When buying it through the publisher’s website (22.95 euros), the client will receive a bookmark and a sheet with exclusive illustrations.

As usual, they also offer a special limited and numbered edition. “This special edition, exclusively sold on our website, will be available in advance reservation until July 8 for all silver and gold members of the Paper Heroes community.” From then on, it will be open to other interested parties. Satoshi Kon produced five feature films and one series, not to mention numerous manga and short films. Despite his untimely death, the creative remains fully current and enjoys respect and influence within the animation industry.
