Lundgaard’s Road America Triumph
The Danish driver began the race from 12th, suffered an early mechanical blow‑up, and underpinned a comeback by swapping to a new wing and softer tires during a caution. Late‑race strategy from the #66 McLaren set him up beside Marcus Armstrong’s Meyer Shank Racing Honda when the final pit sequence unfolded.
Lundgaard capped the effort by holding off Penske’s David Malukas in the brief restart that finished the 107‑lap event, bringing his 2026 season tally to two victories and four podiums.
Rossi Surprises on Road Course
Alexander Rossi qualified 25th for the 4.014‑mile track and finished sixth, matching his best result of the campaign. Rossi’s run came after teammate Christian Rasmussen retired following a 28‑lap mechanical fault that left the Ed Carpenter team in front of the pack.
Team McLaren Struggles
Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward (starting ninth) and Nolan Siegel (starting seventh) could not translate strong qualifying into top‑10 finishes, ending the weekend 12th and 21st respectively. O’Ward’s final position of 12th followed a strategic miscalculation, while Siegel was rear‑ended by Josef Newgarden on the last lap.
Armstrong’s Missed Opportunity
New Zealand’s Marcus Armstrong burst to a dominant race pace after setting the third‑fastest time in practice and qualifying third. A Honda mechanical failure on lap 57 left him unable to contend for a first victory, and he finished 24th, cost him a high‑end title bid.
Palou’s Title Stand
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou led the first 13 laps from pole, then incurred a drive‑through penalty on lap 29 for speeding. A subsequent caution on lap 30 allowed competitors to close the gap, and Palou recovered to finish fifth, remaining in the top‑five championship position behind Kyle Kirkwood.
