Riley Herbst will launch Legacy Motor Club’s third full‑time Cup Series car for the 2027 NASCAR season.
Team co‑owner Jimmie Johnson explained that a full schedule will provide the data volume necessary for elite performance and allow the squad to expand from about 150 to 200 staff and build a new facility.
Johnson noted that a limited‑run third car “took too much away” and that the move will let Legacy develop talent, bring in senior drivers and advance toward a third charter.
Herbst will pilot the No. 84 Monster Energy Toyota Camry XSE, joining the existing No. 42 engine of John Hunter Nemechek and the No. 43 driven by Erik Jones. Nemechek’s departure at the close of 2026 opens the seat for Josh Berry, the front‑runner in the introduction races.
During a recent appearance on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour, Johnson also revealed new investors that will support the expanded program and the broader five‑year ambition to become a top championship contender.
