At 19, the Mercedes‑driven Italian is in his second season and already controls the top of the standings. His victories at Shanghai, Tsukuba, Miami, Montreal and Monaco have cemented a clear advantage over both Hamilton, who has taken second place, and teammate George Russell.

During the Barcelona drivers’ press conference, Antonelli was asked if Hamilton or Verstappen had provided specific advice on out‑maneuvering Russell. He replied that no particular strategy was shared; instead, the two champions merely encouraged him to keep doing what he is doing, stay focused and enjoy the drive.
He added a touch of humour, joking that Verstappen’s latest “tip” was to “wait for the red light to go off and hold for a second”, a playful nod to a previous power‑unit glitch that had unsettled the Red Bull crew.
Harnessing Support on the Track
Antonelli described the relationship with both rivals as “very kind and supportive,” noting that while they are competitors, they also recognize the value of encouraging one another. “We don’t want to give too many direct pointers because it’s the racing that decides the outcome,” he said.
With Russell currently placed third, a mere two points shy of Antonelli, the pressure remains high. While the Italian enjoys a comfortable cushion over Hamilton, the fierce competition between him, Russell, and Verstappen keeps every Grand Prix crucial to the championship chase.
