Kingpin Reloaded: the controversial and violent FPS returns remastered

The classic 1999 first-person action video game returns to the present day totally renewed for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch.

Kingpin, the classic FPS famous for its controversy at the time of its original launch in 1999, returns to the present as Kingpin Reloaded, a remastering of said first-person shooter by Slipgate Ironworks and 3D Realms that is scheduled for digital release to end of this year 2020 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, on a date still to be specified.

The revival of the Quake 2 graphics engine

And it is that Kingpin Reloaded recovers the classic Quake 2 graphics engine to boost it up to 4K resolution and panoramic and ultra-panoramic format with all kinds of graphic improvements, yes, while retaining all the personality of the original title. In addition, along with the new control, new missions and a new conversation system are added to take the Kingpin experience to another level.

Kingpin Reloaded presents a dystopian and dark urban world, in which several criminal gangs dominate their own territory, with the evil Kingpin as a great gangster to which everyone has to respond. When his lieutenant Nikki Blanco leaves a thug without a name battered and shattered, the criminal rises from a pool of blood, with a lead gun in his hand and revenge as his only objective.

Kingpin Reloaded: the controversial and violent FPS returns remastered

"Kingpin did not receive the recognition he deserves, due to his unfortunate release at a time when games were blamed for society's problems," says Frederik Schreiber, founder of 3D Realms. "We have the privilege of giving a second chance to people who have never heard of him, and to polish him for the diehard fans who yearn to return to a life of crime (simulated!)."

And it is that Kingpin appeared at a critical moment socially in the United States, criticized for its high violent content and the proximity to the shooting of the Columbine Institute, which led to its withdrawal from many businesses.
