Alex Marquez will join the factory KTM squad for MotoGP starting in the 2027 season.
Marquez’s 2025 Campaign and the Path to KTM
After securing the runner‑up spot in the 2025 MotoGP championship, the Spaniard confirmed his next ride with Austrian‑made KTM.
His four‑year tenure with Gresini yielded four race victories and helped reverse a stalled trajectory that began after three seasons with Honda.
The agreement follows the Concorde Agreement update, which has prompted a succession of rider moves across the premier class.
From Honda to Ducati to Now, the Ride of Marquez
Marquez will begin an eighth premier‑class campaign in 2027, having raced for Honda, Ducati and now KTM. The move also sees the loss of rider Pedro Acosta to Ducati, freeing a slot for Marquez.
KTM’s motorsports director, Pit Beirer, highlighted the rider’s race intellect and determination, saying: “Marquez’s skill and winning mindset aligns with our DNA – together, we aim to elevate the RC16 and contest the front of MotoGP.”
Establishing the 850cc Program
With the 850cc engine era slated to begin next season, KTM is set to leverage Marquez’s experience to refine the new RC16 platform.
Stability remains a priority as the team also expects to secure Fabio Di Giannantonio from the VR46 team, shifting from Ducati’s Desmosedici to the KTM machine.

Following a financial crisis that was alleviated by Bajaj-backed funding, the racing department now tackles persistent vibration‑related power losses that have compromised early power delivery.
Investigations revealed that excess vibrations are triggering the electronic control unit into emergency mode, cutting power supply. The issue sparked a near‑collision at the Catalan Grand Prix when Acosta’s RC16 abruptly lost power during acceleration.
With solutions pending, the safety and reliability of the new 850cc chassis remain a critical focus.
