La Cantina: Latin American Graphic Artists

Latino talent behind the visual effects of movies or video such as Michael Jakson’s Black and White and the Rick and Morty series

The Cantina Meristation had long tablecloths this Friday night with two first-rate guests, Latin American graphic artists:

Carlos Argüello who has more than 20 years of experience in digital media and direction that has stood out as creative and artistic director in companies such as Walt Disney Features, Cinesite (Kodak), Synthetic Video, and PDI (Pacific Data Images). The creative has collaborated in commercials for ABC, NBC, CBS, HBO and TNT, as well as 4 music videos for Michael Jackson (Black and White and Remember the Time, among others). He has also worked on films such as Natural Born Killers, Space Jam, Batman and Robin, Armageddon, and The Mummy. In 2001, he returned to Guatemala, and created STUDIO C in charge of visual effects for The Chronicles of Riddick, Fast and Furious 3, The Ring 2, Fever Pitch, The Nativity Story, and The Chronicles of Narnia, obtaining an Oscar nomination for the special effects in 2006. A year later he started the CA Foundation (Central American Foundation), a non-profit organization created to promote education and foster culture through art and technology.

And Hugo Blendl, a Mexican animator who at the age of 18 went to study at Vancouver Film School in Canada, where he took degrees in 2D and 3D animation. He graduated in 2015, returning to Mexico to begin his career animating for the Nickelodeon series produced at Anima Studios, Pig Goat Banana Cricket. During the 2 seasons of this series he dedicated himself to making animation and later returned once more to the land of maple to work as an animator for the Rick and Morty series in its 3rd season and next week he will start leading the fifth. He has also directed episodes for the Netflix series Legend Quest. However, from working on both projects, he has traveled through Latin America and Spain giving master classes on 2D and 3D animation and television production processes. He also has an active work on Twitch teaching classes for free.

Both will be in the fourth edition of the Wacom Academy that will take place from September 2 to 5.

Mar Medrano and Gabriel Huerta, for their part, complemented the table with questions regarding entertainment for the guests, as did Vane Gusmiau and Rolando Vera from a more aesthetic point of view.

As usual, the audience spread their views through Facebook, Twitch and YouTube chats with questions and comments for the guests.
