Championship‑clinching Lando Norris stepped onto Goodwood House’s balcony in front of the iconic Goodwood hillclimb, announcing he had just secured the 2025 Formula 1 title.
Lorne‑style celebration at Goodwood
The 24‑year‑old drove the McLaren MCL60 up the famous road, parked the 2023 car in front of Goodwood House, and was escorted to the balcony by the Duke of Richmond. A few moments later, Norris stood beside former champion Valentino, “a hero I looked up to as a child,” and reflected on “meeting my heroes” after a season marked by battles with teammate Oscar Piastri and a decisive win over four‑time champion Max Verstappen in Abu Dhabi.
“It’s a dream. I opened the door with my dad and brother decades ago and now I’m up here wearing number one for McLaren,” he told Sky‑Sports analyst Karun Chandhok. He praised the long‑standing support from the club’s passionate fans and described the moment as a “beautiful old‑car” experience that marked the start of another era for the team.
McLaren’s forward focus
Team principal Andrea Stella, appearing beside Norris, reminded the audience that McLaren’s eye remains on the 2026 season. “We celebrated achievement, yet the future demands we replicate success. We want Lando and Oscar to return for a further world‑championship showdown,” Stella said.
Current season standings
As of the end of the 2025 season, Lando Norris sits fifth with 97 points and Oscar Piastri sixth with 82. McLaren leads the Constructors’ standings with 179 points, trailing Mercedes (333) and Ferrari (255).
Here at Goodwood, the 2025 championship joy was unmistakable, but McLaren is already turning its attention to the next chapter on the 2026 grid.
