Launching Dreams on PS5 is “the logical step,” according to Media Molecule

In the British study they already talk about Dreams in the long-term key, their launch on PlayStation 5 and their expansion over the years.

After a development process that has taken several years and an early access period of several months, finally Dreams, the new Media Molecule and which we have already analyzed, is in the market. With the promise of not putting limits on the imagination of the players, the British studio has taken a step further when it comes to providing creative tools to the community, something they already experienced successfully in several installments of Little Big Planet. However, being a game with a lot of time ahead to continue growing and its late release in the present generation, it is worth wondering if it would not be normal to end up also reaching the next generation, PlayStation 5.

According to Mark Healey, creative director of Media Molecule, there is nothing concrete, but it would be "the next logical step."

"Obviously, we are focused on the PlayStation 4 version right now, but assuming that it gains popularity and is a success, launching it on PlayStation 5 would be the logical step," says Healey, who at the same time ensures that there is no PC version in development. However, in 2019, the co-founder of Media Molecule, Kareem Ettouney, already anticipated that it would not be ruled out if, finally, as everything points out, Dreams is a success.

The future of Dreams in the long term

In the same interview, Healey also talks about the expansion of Dreams in the future, stating that he does not see a hypothetical sequel possible. "I can not imagine that one day there will be a Dreams 2, there is only one Dreams that will be updated and we will support," he anticipates. "It's like there's a YouTube 2, you know?" He concludes, making it clear that the British studio sees Dreams more as a creation platform than as a video game as such, something that perfectly matches the idea of Shuhei Yoshida, once President of Sony Worldwide Studios, of a 10-year cycle for Dreams.

Healey also talks about an idea that Media Molecule has already expressed previously, such as exporting creations and games beyond Dreams and making it possible to acquire them independently. That is, they could be purchased in the PS Store without having to have the base game.

Dreams is now available on PlayStation 4 at the price of 39'99 euros.
