He explained that his parents sold their family home to finance his racing career, a decision that left the brothers in the far‑right of the track and life. Two years after Lawson’s debut season, his younger brother—a five‑year‑old at the time—had written a card to their father, asking, “Dear Dad, if I like racing, will you spend more time with me like Liam?” The letter, found by the Lawson parents a year later, illustrated the emotional toll of their commitment.
When Lawson saw the note, he said simply, “Sorry, man.” He added that his brother now laughs about it, but the moment reminded him of every weekend missed in his parents’ absence.
