Lightning McQueen Lights Up Monza for Italian Grand Prix
Lightning McQueen, the animated racer from Disney and Pixar, made a high‑profile appearance on the Monza circuit as the designated track vehicle for the Italian Grand Prix, underscoring the renewed “Fuel the Magic” collaboration that now stretches through to 2028.
The charge arrival captured instant attention across social media, with posts from fans pointing to racing‑star Liam Lawson’s penchant for the character. One Reddit user noted, “Liam’s currently sprinting towards the track,” while another responded, “I love how everyone’s immediate thought is QUICK WHERE’S LIAM? He’s never going to escape this one lol.” A separate comment simply wrote, “Damn that’s cool.”
The partnership, launched in 2025, initially celebrated Mickey & Friends at the Bellagio Fountains during the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend. This Italian GP weekend marks the first time a Cars franchise icon has been displayed, aligning the event with the 20th anniversary of the beloved series.
F1 chief commercial officer Emily Prazer said, “The success of our partnership with Disney has demonstrated what’s possible when two globally loved brands come together around a shared vision for creativity, storytelling and fan engagement.” She added, “Extending our relationship reflects the strength of that collaboration, and our ambition to continue creating new experiences for fans around the world. This merchandise collection is a natural next step and brings together the excitement of Formula 1 with Disney and Pixar’s Cars in a way that feels both authentic and nostalgic.”
Prazer continued, “For many fans, Cars was an early introduction to the thrill of racing, making this collaboration a fun way to celebrate the enduring appeal of the sport through characters that generations have come to know and love.”
The Lightning McQueen debut at Monza not only energised the paddock but also reaffirmed Formula 1’s commitment to blending cutting‑edge motorsport with popular culture, setting a precedent for future celebrations under the “Fuel the Magic” banner.
