Cadillac Racing has named Marcin Budkowski its new team principal, replacing Graeme Lowdon during the mid‑season shutdown.
The U.S.‑based outfit, positioned at the very bottom of the Constructors’ Table, has endured all 11 races without a single points score.
Former Engines Chief
Budkowski, a 49‑year‑old Polesman, spent more than two decades working in Formula 1’s technical and sporting arenas, starting as an aerodynamicist with Prost in 2001.
He later joined Ferrari for five seasons, followed by stints at McLaren and the FIA before taking an executive director role at Renault in 2020.
During 2021 he served as joint team principal at Renault alongside Davide Brivio.
Cadillac’s Early Struggles
With a brand‑new chassis and a lack of any podiums, Cadillac Racing’s drivers have trailed the field in pace and reliability.
Lowdon’s 2024 season, anticipated to finish without a points finish, prompted the board to seek fresh leadership after continuous underperformance.
Budkowski’s Vision
“I’ve had discussions with more than half of the teams on the grid,” Budkowski told reporters, “and some are far more advanced than others.”
He stated that the move to Cadillac would let him join a project he genuinely believes in, underpinned by the financial backing and motorsport expertise of the TWG Group and the automotive strength of General Motors.
“The board is made entirely of motorsport professionals,” he added, “and that shared language makes the vision clearer and the timelines realistic.”
Budkowski pointed out that the expectations are “reasonable and grounded in the reality of Formula 1”; he aims to develop a team capable of contesting at the front with time.
“Joining a crew that lives and breathes racing is refreshing,” he said. “Their attitude and vision are the foundations that give me confidence.”
With the reshuffle complete, all attention now centers on the next races to gauge whether new leadership can change the course of this rookie program.
