The first woman in history to play professionally in the League of Legends Championship Series has died this Christmas at 24 years old.
The first woman in history to become a professional League of Legends player, Maria Cleveling, better known by her nickname, “Remilia”, died on December 27 at 24 years old, as her boyfriend announced throught social media. “My girlfriend Maria passed away last night. She would not like any public statement too long, so all I will say is that the 4 months since I have known her have been the best of our lives and she deserved much more. It has been a privilege to meet her this small period of time that has touched me. Rest in peace, Maria. I love you. "

The news has overwhelmed the entire community behind the Riot Games game, where Remilia was known for her feat of qualifying for the 2015 League of Legends Championship Series, when she played with Renegades. Over time, the player also militated on the staff of Kaos Latin Gamers, FlyQuest and Sector 7, although she ended up withdrawing from the competitive scene due to the continuous personal attacks she suffered, the result of harassment and transphobia of some followers. In recent months she had been seen broadcasting on Twitch, where last November she had been encouraged to participate in the Twitch Rivals Team Draft 2019.
Richard Lewis, the roommate of the eSport player and journalist, also confirmed the news and spoke about the death: “With great sadness I inform you that my best friend, Maria Creveling, died peacefully while she was sleeping yesterday. She would not have wanted great statements or praise, because although she had fans all over the world, she never wanted to be the center of attention. My only request for anyone who wants to pay tribute is to ensure that it is done in a manner that is consistent with these wishes. ”
She would not have wanted any lengthy statements or grand eulogies. Despite having fans all over the world she was never one who craved the spotlight. My only request is that anyone wanting to pay tribute reach out to ensure that it is done in a manner that respects her wishes.
