We review all the content and confirmed heroes that will soon arrive in Marvel’s Avengers. Will it come back with the additions during 2021?
Marvel’s Avengers has not started in the best way. The numbers speak for themselves: this November it lost 96% of its players on Steam since its premiere, with an average of 1,190 concurrent people per day. And it is that the mega-production of Square Enix has not yet recovered the costs of its development.
The panorama, as you can imagine, is complex. The Japanese company intends to take flight with a plan marked by “extensive additional content.” What exactly do they mean? In this piece we will put on the table all the contents revealed so far and what we can expect from the Crystal Dynamics Avengers in 2021.
Next stop: Kate Bishop
We expected the arrival of Kate Bishop by the end of October. However, the company decided to delay its launch until December 8. The heroine will be the first additional character to enter the game, which will fatten the available roster to 7. Her arrival raises a new mini-campaign where she will search for her old mentor, Hawkeye, and propose a new villain.
Although we do not know at the moment the length of his plot, we can expect that at the controls he will be a different character to control. His mastery of the bow is just the tip of the iceberg of the combat repertoire he will offer. Melee, he draws his katana with which he devours his enemies using teleportation chains.
As revealed on the official PlayStation blog, using his abilities Blink can perform “double jumps, dodges and grabs on stage through teleportation.” In practice she is a kind of Black Widow, only twice as fast. Among the different skills with the bow we can find fast combos of three arrows, explosive arrows, smoke arrows and more. Its premise is clear: to do damage while covering the team in moments of tension.
His campaign, according to Crystal Dynamics, is “the first of two halves in the history of Hawkeye.” It will begin shortly after the end of the Gather Together campaign, the bulk of Marvel’s Avengers base, and will shape future events that will be shaped by each new hero added. As we know, all the additional characters and their missions will arrive at no additional cost.
Confirmed characters and future
Following the outcome of Kate Bishop, the next face to join the Chimera will be Hawkeye, which confirmed its appearance last July. As we pointed out with the young woman, the story of Clint Barton will be the outcome of the story arc that the teacher and apprentice will form. Playable data is unknown, except that we can expect similar bow mechanics to Bishop’s. Ojo de Halcón suffered the global delay of the expected content for this 2020. It has not transcended its end date, except that we will play with it at some point in the beginning of 2021. It will be accompanied by another unpublished villain.
The third name confirmed so far goes through the famous spider-man. Spider-Man will be part of the playable rooster exclusively for the PS4 and PS5 versions. The exclusivity was a jug of cold water for users of the Xbox and PC ecosystem; the studio promised that Peter Parker will be “the only character we’re going to do this with.” The reasons go through Sony’s ownership of the Spider-Man film rights and the “relationship between PlayStation and Marvel,” according to Scot Amos, director of Crystal Dynamics.
No image of the Spider-Man from Marvel’s Avengers has been released, although we do know that “it is not the Spidey from Insomniac Games”. During his reveal, the company spoke to the image we could expect of him; It will be heavily influenced by the more classic version of Steve Ditko’s comics. It will have its own skill tree and all the elements of any other hero in the game. Before the delays, it was planned for early 2021.
Beyond what is named, we do not know in detail what awaits the game for the bulk of the next year. We can expect a new hero, another playable region and “more narrative.” To inquire about other names we must go back to the first public beta. Data mining uncovered 15 additional characters that appeared in the files as “selectable characters.” Ant-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange and Vision, among others, stood out on the list.
Enhanced for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S
The beginning of summer takes us back to those days when information about the new generation appeared with a dropper. Marvel’s Avengers was one of the first to break the ice. The graphic and technical improvement will come as a free update for all users who have a copy for PS4 and Xbox One in their possession. And yes, there will be cross-play between consoles of the same family.
The data thrown at that time promised practically non-existent loading times, thanks to the SSD unit mounted on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S. In the fifth generation of PlayStation it will have two graphic configurations, prioritizing resolution or frame rate. The official PlayStation blog indicated that the improvements will translate into a version at 60 frames per second with native 4k resolution, at least on PS5. The port will take advantage of the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the DualSense, as well as the Audio 3D Tempest.
Scheduled for before the end of the year, the team moved the improvements until 2021, without specifying. Meanwhile, users of the new consoles will be able to continue playing via backward compatibility. “We have made the decision to move the release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S to next year in order to ensure that we give the team the time to deliver a next-generation experience,” explained its creative director.
