Max Verstappen embraced Kimi Antonelli’s father, Marco Antonelli, instantly after the Italian driver clipped the top spot in Monza, marking his first home‑front victory from 19th on the grid.
Touching Moment Sparks Social‑Media Surge
The hug, captured in real time by the Monza paddock camera, quickly flooded networks. Fans dubbed it “very sweet, very wholesome,” while others called Verstappen a “class act” for acknowledging the family’s triumph. One Reddit comment noted, “Max is and always will be a class act,” and another added, “Max is really the bigger person… I’d still be salty that Kimi lost me a shot at 5× WDC last season.”
Antonelli Rises to Italian GP Victory
Antonelli’s 20‑year‑old success made the podium of the famously choked Metrod station: Mercedes’ George Russell held second, whereas Verstappen finished third. “This is the most special podium of the season,” Antonelli asserted in the post‑race press conference. “Being at home adds that extra. I’m super, super happy.”
Standings Shifted
The Monza win extends Antonelli’s lead over Russell to 66 points, while Lewis Hamilton lags 76 behind the Italian, 10 points behind Russell. Verstappen’s podium finish keeps him in third place through the season’s halting.
