Meripodcast 14x16: The greatness of Turrican on its 30th anniversary

We gather to celebrate the technical prodigy and one of the most famous and iconic soundtracks of the Amiga.

If things had been otherwise, Turrican would be one of those sagas capable of maintaining its identity and new deliveries through the generations. It certainly had the natural conditions to do it: one of the most technically advanced games on the Commodore 64 (or the most impressive it was); one of the best games of all time in Amiga thanks to an immortal soundtrack that continues to sound like a hymn to all who lived the 16-bit computer. Five different games, some better than others but at a superb level in design, technical and creative aspects that should have left a bigger mark on the video game world.

Shoot or Die

The Meripodcast Retro team meets to talk about the series, their memories and knowledge of it. Factor 5, the legendary studio that has given so many gems to the video game, is back and has prepared a whole return on the occasion of the (more or less) 30 anniversary of Turrican, with two different compilations, one called Flashback, which compiles four games (Turrican 1 and 2 in Amiga, Mega Turrican in Mega Drive and Super Turrican in Super Nintendo) and of which you can read the Reviews here. We will talk about the history of its creation, its circumstances, the quality and characteristics of the deliveries in its different versions and some curious details of its creation and time.

And, of course, we will recreate one of the best soundtracks of all time, with the legendary Cris Huelsbeck at his best, offering hit after hit in all kinds of registers, playing Paula, the Amiga audio chip. , as few have managed to make it sound and achieving excellence also on other platforms. If something guarantees the place in the history of this saga, it is undoubtedly thanks to the music.
