Mojang has removed the peer-to-peer multiplayer connection feature from the upcoming Minecraft Chaos Cubed update, just days before its release, citing that the experience wasn’t what they wanted it to be for all players.
This decision comes after the feature was introduced in a recent snapshot, giving players hope that they would be able to add friends in Minecraft worlds without needing a LAN connection or purchasing third-party online servers.
Chaos Cubed Update Changes
The Minecraft 26.2 Pre-Release 1 snapshot, released today, marks the start of the final testing phase before the full update launches, and it removes the peer-to-peer connection feature, disappointing many in the community.
According to the official blog post, “the experience wasn’t what we wanted it to be for all players, we do not consider the feature ready for release in its current form.”
Minecraft Multiplayer Feature Removal
The removal of the multiplayer feature is a significant change, as it was a highly requested feature for a long time, and its introduction in the previous snapshot had given players a glimpse of what could be possible.
However, the friends list system, which was introduced in snapshot 7, will still be present in the game, allowing players to add friends using their profile names, even if they cannot invite them into their active worlds.
Known Issues and Workarounds
The Minecraft 26.2 Pre-Release 1 update also comes with a known issue, where the game crashes on PCs that do not have Vulkan support, and Mojang suggests editing the option.txt file as a temporary workaround until a fix arrives.
Despite the removal of the multiplayer feature, the Chaos Cubed update is still expected to bring exciting new features, including the new Sulfur cube mob in a new biome.
As the community waits for the update’s release, they can look forward to learning more about the features and changes at Minecraft Live in May 2026, and for now, they must adapt to the new developments in the Minecraft universe.
