The newest Minecraft Frozen Biome is now available for Bedrock players to test as part of preview 26.60.29.
Ice Caves Biome Now Testable
Bedrock Edition users can explore the Ice Caves biome in the latest Minecraft Preview 26.60.29. This underground domain generates exclusively beneath the colder zones of the Overworld, featuring large icicles, packed‑ice formations, and extensive calcite deposits.
Explorers will encounter spontaneous icicles that, when struck by sufficient heat or torches, can detach from the ceiling, fall, and inflict damage on unsuspecting players.
Stagnant snow patches surface, and ice crystals provide a subtle glow in the otherwise dim caverns, offering a modest light source that is invisible to the naked eye.
Cold‑Immersion Mechanics
Preview 26.60.29 introduces several experimental cold‑themed mechanics slated for the forthcoming 26.4 update, announced at Minecraft Live September. Players may search stone and deepslate veins for ores but will not find standard cave materials such as dirt, granite, or glow lichen.
Frostbite, a new hostile zombie variant, is specially tailored for these frigid environments. It can switch between melee swings and ranged projectiles, delivering a freeze effect that chills players, reduces jump height, and enables gradual frost buildup before damage compounds.
Frostbite: New Zombie Threat
The Frostbite attempts direct contact blows but also hurls ice balls that trigger knockback. Standing near the projectile can amplify its impact. Conquering this mob rewards players with ice balls that can be repurposed as ingredients for the potion of Freezing.
While leather armor can prevent the freezing state, it does not block the application of the effect, compelling players to seek alternative defensive measures.
Additional Biome Features
Beyond the Frostbite, standard cave adversaries such as spiders, skeletons, and zombies remain active. Zombies and husks stepping onto powder snow will transform into Frostbite, mirroring the previously documented Drowned conversion mechanic.
The biome is a preview for the upcoming 26.4 update, expected to release in December 2026. Community anticipation builds as developers hint at a forthcoming “Sift” dimension set to arrive in 2027, raising speculation about potential new mobs and mechanics.
