Ni No Kuni and Dragon Quest movies, on the way to Netflix

Ni No Kuni and Dragon Quest: Your Story will arrive shortly to the streaming platform, which premieres both animation tapes after its passage through Japan.

Peli, blanket and double session on videogame adaptations. Netflix has confirmed that this year it will add to its catalog the films of Ni no Kuni and Dragon Quest. In fact, the first one is just around the corner and will be released in Spain on January 16. For Dragon Quest: Your Story we will have to wait for something else. The tape arrived in Japan on August 2, 2019 and the streaming company is still deciding when to bring it to our country.

What do we know about both movies?

Yoshiyuki Momose has worked in the animation department of Studio Ghibli for many years. The trip of Chihiro, Princess Mononoke and The Tomb of the Fireflies are some of the films in which he collaborated before making the leap to the videogames sector, where he has participated in the latest works of Level 5. After his role in both Ni No Kuni, the developer chose him to direct the adaptation of the saga to the big screen, which came out at the end of last year in Japan and, despite the warm reception given to him by critics and audiences, Netflix has dared to take to the west, where the brand has always been welcome. His story does not connect with the plot of the games and focuses on telling us the adventures of a group of students who enter the universe of Ni No Kuni to save the lives of several people in his world. The script is signed by Akihiro Hino (author after Professor Layton and Yo-kai Watch) and the soundtrack, Joe Hisaishi (another famous heir to Ghibli).

As for Dragon Quest: Your Story, the movie is a Netflix original, which covered part of its budget and helped with some of the locations that the tape collects. Its story adapts the script of Dragon Quest V: The Celestial Bride, a game that landed in Famicom back in 1992 and later had a version for Nintendo DS in 2008. Share a soundtrack with the saga and all the songs have been recorded by the Orchestra Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony. The screenwriter behind the film is Yuji Horii, creator of the franchise, and the direction rests with Takashi Yamazaki, who has previously worked in the field of animation (Stand by Me, Doraemon). Currently mired in some legal disputes in Japan, where the author of the novel about the game has denounced that they use part of the characters and plots that he created expressly for the book, it is still an unknown when he will arrive on this side of the world, although seeing that It has already been listed here by Netflix, it does not seem that we will have to wait long.
