Nintendo recommends turning two-step verification on Switch; how to do it

Many users report that unauthorized logins have occurred in their console accounts, so a security breach is feared.

There are more than a few Nintendo Switch users who have posted on social media that certain unauthorized persons have attempted to access their Nintendo accounts from various countries. The complaints alert about a possible security breach, since the players have even mentioned that purchases have been made without their consent. Meanwhile, those in Kyoto have been weeks with a campaign on social networks (United States), through which they recommend the activation of verification in two steps to their clients.

As published by Nintendo Life, the user Pixelpar has commented on Twitter that someone accessed his user account "many times", and all this despite the fact that he has a unique password. TerranSherwood, for his part, explained the following: "My Nintendo account was hacked this morning and they spent $ 99." Similar stories can be found on social media and in forums like ResetEra. Also, a Kotaku journalist has written that someone logged into his account from Thailand in March.

How to activate two-step verification

On the official Nintendo website, the company offers a complete tutorial on how to strengthen the account, which we show below.

  • Go to https://accounts.nintendo.com and log in to your Nintendo account.
  • Select "Login and Security Settings" and scroll down to the "Two-Step Verification" section. Then click "Edit".
  • Click "Turn on two-step verification."
  • Click "Submit" to have a verification code sent to the displayed email address.
  • If the email address is incorrect, click "Change" next to the "Email Address" menu under "User Information" to change it.
  • Enter the email verification code and select "Send".
  • Install the Google Authenticator app on your smart device.
  • It is free and available through Google Play (Android) and the App Store (iOS).
  • Use the smart device application to scan the QR code displayed on the screen of the Nintendo account.
  • A 6-digit verification code will appear on your smart device. Enter the verification code in the field in step 3 of the Nintendo Account screen and select "Submit."
  • A list of security codes will appear. Click "Copy" to copy all the codes and paste them somewhere safe.
  • You will need a security code to log in if you don't have access to the Google Authenticator app. Be sure to keep them in a safe place.
  • You can use these codes (one different each time) if you do not have access to the Google Authenticator application.
  • Click on "Saved Security CodesĀ» and then "OK".
  • Once configured, you can return to the "Two-Step Verification Settings" section to view security codes and remove the 2-step restriction.
