Oscar Piastri, the 25‑year‑old McLaren driver, called the Isle of Man TT riders “nuts” after witnessing the legendary road race from a garden at the base of the infamous Bray Hill.
First weekend at the Isle of Man TT
Accompanied by former F1 champion Mark Webber and a Monster Energy delegation, Piastri spent the opening week of the TT perched on a homeowner’s lawn, a spot the local guide assured was the best view of the action. “We’re at someone’s house, going through their garden – I didn’t know what to expect, but this wasn’t it,” the Australian posted in a short video, before adding the now‑famous line, “These guys are nuts.”
Webber echoed the sentiment on his own feed, noting the privilege of introducing newcomers to the “display of sheer courage” that defines the @ttracesofficial event.
Season resurgence and a Monte Carlo test
Piastri’s TT detour follows a turbulent start to the 2026 Formula 1 campaign: a spin‑out on the reconnaissance lap at his home Grand Prix in Melbourne ended his race before it began, and an electrical glitch forced both him and teammate Lando Norris to miss the Chinese Grand Prix start.
Momentum returned in Japan, where the McLaren rookie secured second place, and in Miami, where he climbed onto the podium in third after an unexpected five‑week pause in April. Those results lifted him to sixth in the drivers’ standings with 48 points after an 11th‑place finish in Canada.
The next challenge awaits on the narrow streets of Monte Carlo, where the Monaco Grand Prix will unfold from 5 to 7 June, offering Piastri another chance to translate his newfound confidence into points.
