Overwatch 2: the campaign and multiplayer progression will work separately

The sequel to the successful Blizzard Entertainment title will return soon with a delivery that will focus on the story.

Since Blizzard Entertainment officially announced Overwatch 2 (because yes, it leaked a few days after the start of BlizzCon 2019), developers have been sharing more and more details about the game. This time, the company has answered some of the fans' questions through the official PlayStation blog. Among the new information that has been offered, it has been confirmed that the campaign and multiplayer progression system will not be one, but will work separately.

Aaron Keller, assistant director of Overwatch 2 has said the following about the progression system: “Our goal is to build a robust progression system” that feeds on the Heroes Missions, so that players can “play and play during many hours ”, even when the campaign is over. He emphasizes that his desire is for players to return to this mode. The multiplayer, therefore, will flow in another direction.

Keller has also said that the team is already working on the creation of new heroes beyond Sojourn. "We can't say anything," but "they will help us in the world of Overwatch and provide us with new gameplay mechanics that we have not yet seen.

New brushstrokes on the narrative

In the question and answer article Michael Chu, the main screenwriter of the videogame has also participated, who explained that with the narrative missions, they will have the opportunity to tell a story “in a more traditional way” within the “Overwatch universe”. The developer promises "a complete story with beginning, knot and outcome." The narrative will be made to be seen through the eyes of the different heroes.

Beyond the new narrative plots, Overwatch 2 will introduce the Push mode, as well as new heroes and scenarios. It should be noted that Blizzard has taken very seriously the fact of not leaving behind the players of the first installment, so all the content of heroes and scenarios will be available to the bulk of users.

Overwatch 2 is in development for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, although the release date has not yet been announced.
