Panic Button wants to make a port of Valheim for Nintendo Switch

Valheim goes on and on: new peak with more than 360,000 players

The studio acknowledges being interested in bringing the survival game Iron Gate to the Nintendo platform after its success on the computer.

Valheim is one of the video games of the moment and the first great phenomenon in the sector so far in 2021. The open world multiplayer title set in the Viking era from Iron Gate Studio has sold more than 5 million copies on Steam in just one month, a success that arouses interest in the rest of the platforms. At Panic Button, responsible for the recent port of Apex Legends for Nintendo Switch, they would be happy to make an adaptation of the game for the hybrid console.

“Right now I’m playing Valheim too much and I would love to make a port for Nintendo Switch,” said the production director of the North American studio, Dan Hernberg, in an interview with Nintendo Life. Obviously, this desire does not have to materialize in anything, since they do not confirm that they are in talks with Iron Gate Studio or Coffee Stain Publishing, publisher of the work on Steam.

Valheim sells 5 million units on Steam in a month, will it reach consoles?

Several aspects must be taken into account before considering an eventual release of Valheim on consoles; Either Nintendo Switch or others such as PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PS5 or Xbox Series X | S, and the game is not finished, but in early access. Examples like Rust serve to understand that an early access title needs to reach version 1.0 before thinking about its port for consoles. The Facepunch title launched on Steam in early access in 2013, it wasn’t until a couple of years later that version 1.0 was reached; in spring 2021 it will make the leap to Sony and Microsoft systems. We do not know how long it will take Valheim to have his console edition if that adaptation takes place.

Another aspect to note is that Iron Gate Studio currently has five workers. The game’s success on Steam will allow them to expand their roster and dedicate more resources not only to development, but also to supporting a community with tens of thousands of players a day on Valve’s digital platform.

On the game’s support website, specifically in the question and answer section, Iron Gate assures that “There are no plans to launch the game on other platforms at the time of writing this article, but we do not rule out console versions in the future. ”.

Meanwhile, Valheim continues to develop slowly and does not stop growing. It is currently one of the five titles with the most connected players on Steam, as well as one of the best sellers each week.
