Phil Spencer on Xbox Series X: “The price will be important”, but does not think about sales

Xbox Series X: Microsoft has several events planned for this summer

The Microsoft executive is not concerned with sales of the console the first year and assumes that not everyone will be able to buy it at launch.

Microsoft continues to focus on making the launch of the Xbox Series X an event. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has declared in a recent meeting with the BBC his immediate priorities for the launch of the console, which will mark the start of the new generation in the American house.

How many million players; not how many million consoles

With its sights set on its July event, where they will show the first first party games, this summer it will be essential at the communicative level to finish convincing the undecided to buy a new Xbox or a PS5; dilemma in which a large part of the community finds itself. Therefore, Spencer assumes that “the price will be important.” He himself assured that we will know the price this summer, when reservations are opened, but that figure was not decided then.

“But our strategy is focused on the player, not the console,” he continues. “If this isn’t the year a family wants to make the decision to buy a new Xbox, that’s fine. Our strategy does not revolve around how many Xbox we sell this year; “We are focused on offering our services through Xbox Game Pass, which allows people to create a collection of games in exchange for a monthly subscription,” he said.

Among the services, apart from its on-demand games subscription program, Smart Delivery stands out, which will allow you to buy a game for Xbox One and upgrade it to Xbox Series X at no cost (pay once for each title covered by this function) or the so much improved backwards compatibility that they announced at the end of May. Xbox Series X will support “thousands” of games throughout Xbox history from launch. But not only will they be playable in this aptly named ecosystem, they will also be executed with improvements.

Many of them will take advantage of 4K resolution and 60 FPS when they originally were not; they will have functions like Quick Resume to resume the game right where we left it even if we change the game or turn off the console; or a full use of the machine’s hardware to dramatically reduce loading times. “We want to make sure we offer adequate value to our consumers,” Spencer reflects on the British media.

Xbox Series X will hit the market in Christmas 2020 at an unknown price and with some launch games yet to be finalized. We tell you all about Xbox Series X in this report.
