Pirelli has activated its one‑year option, extending its tenure as Formula 1’s sole tyre supplier until the end of 2028 – a full 18‑year partnership spanning the championship’s current era.
Rivalry, renewal and contract details
The Italian brand secured the deal in 2023, fending off Bridgestone in the FIA tender and adding a third‑year extension to its 2021–2027 supply agreement. That package included the now‑triggered option, which the tyre manufacturer exercised to keep its presence through 2028.
Under the renewed terms, Pirelli will continue supplying the full‑powered rings to F2, F3 and the all‑female F1 Academy, cementing a one‑source arrangement that guarantees tyre standardisation across the feeder series.
Official reactions and future outlook
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem hailed the extended partnership, saying: “Pirelli has delivered consistently high performance and safety, giving us stability and reflecting strong collaboration between the FIA, Formula One Group and Pirelli.”
Formula One Group’s chief Stefano Domenicali added, “Pirelli’s technical brilliance, focus on performance, innovation and sustainability gives all teams peace of mind – this continuation empowers us to push the regulatory envelope further.”
