PlatimumGames updates its website with a mysterious "4"

The Japanese studio, which works on Bayonetta 3 and Babylon's Fall, anticipates something new on its official site.

The creators of Metal Gear Rising, NieR: Automata, Astral Chain and Bayonetta, among others, fan the fire with more firewood. It's no secret that PlatinumGames works on unannounced projects, something that the company itself revealed last year. In that rumor-laden environment, Japanese developers have just updated their website with a very brief message, a number, to be precise. The "4" is the clue of what seems to anticipate a new project. The fourth installment of a saga? Maybe the number of titles they have underway? At the moment, no certainty, some doubts and many rumors.

As of today, the only official thing is that the studio works on two video games already announced. On the one hand, Babylon's Fall, a project with Square Enix that was announced at E3 2018, although we had to wait until the end of 2019 to enjoy a new teaser trailer. PlatinumGames took advantage of that moment to reveal that they would offer new details in the summer of 2020. On the other hand, Bayonetta 3 is the second confirmed production, a video game that will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

Bayonetta 3 is still silent

At the moment, both Nintendo and PlatinumGames are silent. Since its announcement at The Game Awards 2017, the action title starring the charismatic Bayonetta has not poked its head. The Kyoto ones have not revealed their roadmap for 2020, so beyond Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the present of Nintendo Switch is an unknown, because the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Metroid Prime 4 has no release date. Although a new Nintendo Direct is expected in the coming weeks, it has not yet become official.

The rumors related to PlatinumGames have increased in the last hours, since some sources have pointed to the possibility that the study presents a campaign of micro-patronage to publish an adaptation of The Wonderful 101, an exclusive Wii U title directed by Hideki Kamiya . While the Japanese have their own page on Kickstarter, they still haven't communicated anything about it.

Kenichi Sato, president of the company, commented in recent statements that a new stage for PlatinumGames was opening. In addition, he anticipated big surprises by 2020. It is possible that the number “4” is the first of them. Time will tell.
