A graphics engine for the new generation
The Japanese company has put all the meat on the grill and works on new technology for Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 and PC. This has been announced by PlatinumGames itself through its website, where they highlight the need to use internal tools to build their products. According to the study, they valued the possibility of using third-party graphics engines, such as Unreal Engine 4. However, the company points out that they needed a series of functionalities that were not available in these tools, so they preferred to develop them internally. They are aware that over time they could be implemented, but they want to own the times and the processes.
"We have used our own engine, specialized in action game development since PlatinumGames was founded," writes Wataru Ohomori, a member of the study. That technology has become obsolete: "Modern titles need a new level of quality, a wide variety of objects on the screen and greater visual expressiveness." Our engine will help us produce games that are bigger and more expressive than ever. "
PlatinumGames highlights that lack of control can be fatal within a development. That is another reason why they decided to choose to undertake in that direction. The company, whose goal is to publish its video games, received a significant financial injection from Tencent, the Chinese giant. However, this investment will not mean the loss of independence of the study.
