Pokémon Diamond and Pearl: Nintendo Switch vs Nintendo DS graphic comparison

The original Nintendo DS adventures are back on Nintendo Switch from ILCA. A 1: 1 remake where the original scale will be respected.

Pokémon Shiny Diamond and Pokémon Shimmering Pearl are now a reality. The return to Sinnoh is official, but it will be done by the Japanese studio ILCA – supervised by Junichi Masuda, producer of the saga – at the end of 2021 exclusively for Nintendo Switch. We have already seen the first trailer and it has been confirmed that these remasters will seek to respect both the history and the scale of routes, towns and cities, including the original gameplay by squares; without giving up the fighting and elements that left their mark on Nintendo DS fifteen years ago. In the following video we can see this graphic evolution face to face.

As we see in the following video from GameXplain, this approach in the design of scenery, position and elements is literal in all routes, towns, forests, lakes … If in the past there was a separation of three squares between a Pokémon Center and a house, now there will be the same. It is, in a way, an artistic purpose similar to that carried out by Grezzo in 2019 with The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Nintendo Switch, with a top-down view, just like on the Game Boy, and with very colorful, eye-catching graphics, friendly.

Both Pokémon Shiny Diamond and Pokémon Shimmering Pearl will take elements from Let’s Go, Pikachu / Eevee (2018, Nintendo Switch) in terms of three-dimensional Pokémon modeling and color palette, but they will not be detached from turn-based combat.

The official portal of these video games indicates that these remakes “are easy to play and have very useful functions for players, as is the case with the most current Pokémon games”; although we do not know what they refer to. Maybe Share Experience for all team members? Sword and Shield EXP Candy Presence? Soon we will leave doubts. We don’t know yet if the old MOs will return, but it does seem clear that turn-based combat is back.

Pokémon Shiny Diamond and Pokémon Shimmering Pearl will go on sale exclusively for Nintendo Switch at the end of 2021. In early 2022, for its part, will arrive Pokémon Legends: Arceus from the hand of Game Freak with a new playable bet based on a world open ARPG.
