Pokémon: Gary Oak, the mythical rival of Ash Ketchum, confirms his return to anime

25 years after the original premiere of the series, the Pokémon Travel season will feature the appearance of Professor Oak’s grandson in its next episodes.

Gary Oak is back in the Pokémon anime. The 23rd season, Pokémon Travel, currently on broadcast in Spain through the Boing network, will see the appearance of Professor Oak’s grandson soon. The official account dedicated to the neat animated series has been in charge of communicating that Gary (Blue / Green in the original Kanto video games) will appear in one of the following episodes.

Although it has not been specified when or in what way, the new opening video of the chapters (opening) already shows Gary Oak among the prominent characters. A native of Pallet Town, Kanto, he is Ash Ketchum’s greatest rival, the star of the series, since his beginnings as a Trainer and aspiring Pokémon master.

10 years without seeing Gary Oak in the Pokémon anime

For those of you familiar with the Pokémon anime series, it should be remembered that the last time we saw Gary Oak in the anime was in the last episode of Season 14, during the fifth generation (initial season of the Pokémon arc: Black and White, 2011). Back then, Gary made more than one reference to his willingness to become a Pokémon researcher, just like his grandfather, thus deflecting his ambition to compete with other Trainers from all regions.

In the absence of knowing what is the present of this charismatic character and what are his purposes for the future, it is confirmed that Gary Oak will return in the near future.

More information on Pokémon Travel, the current anime season

Pokémon Travel is the current anime season, a change in trend from what we were used to. Unlike in the past, where the seasons were framed in the present region of the games of the main saga, this time Ash Ketchum is accompanied by Goh, a young man with a passion for these creatures, in adventures through Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola and Galar herself. A structural turn that has also come accompanied by a script not so subject to self-concluding episodes, but the main plot is now clearer, broader and more complex.
