The Niantic game receives one of its biggest updates to date. We teach you to calculate the individual values of your Pokémon.
Pokémon GO has received what is possibly one of the most important updates that are remembered. It has been three years since its departure and a couple of decades in general for the franchise, but for the first time in the saga we can tangibly know the IV of our Pokémon and thus dispense with the use of external applications to know these hidden values. Here we explain what are the IV and how to calculate them.
What are the IV in Pokémon GO?
First things first: what are the IVs. Genetics has been part of the saga for many years, with important changes in the jump from the second to the third generation. In Pokémon GO, each Pokémon has 3 hidden individual values (IV) between 0 and 15 for each of the three characteristics: Attack, Defense and Stamina / Stamina. Each of these values determines the level of power that a specific creature can have when it reaches its maximum level. They are granted completely randomly at birth.
Although, for example, we have two Charizard at the highest level (40), one can have a CP of 2134 and another 2431 (random figures) because their IVs will be different. Whoever has higher IVs will be more powerful.
If a Charizard is perfect – if it has its Attack, Defense and Resistance IVs to the maximum (15/15) – it will be a 100% Charizard. If we put ourselves on the stage of a Charizard with the minimum of IVs in each characteristic (0, 0 and 0), its power can be 85% with respect to its total power capacity when it reaches the maximum level.

How to calculate IV in Pokémon GO
Until now, in the section Appraise / Appraise we indicated through phrases an approximation of the power level of the selected Pokémon; an insufficient comment to know its potential in each characteristic. Now we will know in detail. Even if the exact figure is not said, just looking at the extension of the bar will be easily readable.
As we can see in the images, each bar is divided into three sectors (from 0-5, from 6 to 10 and from 11 to 15). In addition, just above will appear a stamp with three stars, which indicates the overall calculation of individual values together. Let us also detail what that section of the assessment means:
-
0 stars: 0% – 48.9% IV total (not total power, but total IV)
-
1 star: 51.1% – 64.4% total IV
-
2 stars: 66.7% – 80% IV total
-
3 stars: 82.2% – 97.8% IV total
-
4 stars: 100% total IV

What is the use of knowing the Pokémon IV
It is the question that many can ask, why do I want to know the IV of my Pokémon? It all depends on whether you want to play competitively or not. In addition, the IVs are not the only factor to consider, but also the PCs (Combat Points).
When you catch a Pokémon with very high PCs it does not mean that when it reaches its maximum level it will be stronger; That depends on the IV. Knowing the IV in detail will help you know which Pokémon is more advisable than evolutions in the face of its set-up in the PvP or gyms.
Likewise, the attacks: it is useless to have good genetics if we do not teach you the right movements. The subject is much more complex than it seems, since sometimes we will have to use Power Up / Give more to reduce the possible combinations and if that Pokémon will be suitable for combat or not, but that an accessory detail, only for those who seek The deepest and most nuclear experience.
