Pokémon HOME: what will be free and what will be paid

We review all the details of the new service, which will be available this February on Nintendo Switch; later on mobile devices.

The Pokémon Company announced on Tuesday all the details of Pokémon HOME, the expected application that will have a role of great importance for competitive players and those who want to have a sort of base of operations with which to exchange Pokémon, learn information and move creatures from previous deliveries, not just Sword and Shield.

Given the large number of doubts we have received regarding the free and paid service features, serve this article as a complement to answer many of your questions.

Pokémon HOME: not just a cloud box

Before starting, it is necessary to make it clear that Pokémon HOME is not the Pokémon Bank with another name. The return of the National Pokédex will occur on the occasion of the app, so that even the Mega Evolution Pokémon will be registered with its 3D modeling; all, even if they are not present in Generation VIII yet.

The main function, however, is to serve as a "home" where you can store all the species captured in Pokémon Let’s Go, Pokémon Sword and Shield and even Pokémon GO in an undetermined future. The compatibility of the Pokémon Bank and the Poké Translator (free during the first month) will allow the Generation IV and V (NDS) and Generation VI and VII (3DS) cartridges to fit in Pokémon HOME in irreversible movements : there is no way back.

In each function, we will detail if it is free (Basic Plan) or if it is paid (Premium Plan)

Exchange Functions in Pokémon HOME

Depending on the plan chosen for each of the four exchange functions available, there will be more or less limitations, as we see in the infographic image.

  • Prodigious Box: Like the Prodigious Exchange, in this box we can store Pokémon that will be randomly exchanged with people from all over the world. These exchanges will occur even when we don't have the app open, in the background. When we return we can see the Pokémon received. (Plans: Basic / Free and Premium).

  • GTS: The famous Global Trade System returns, where you can indicate which specific Pokémon we want to exchange and which one we would like to receive in return. Once decided, a match will be made with a Coach that expressly complies with the requested conditions. (Plans: Basic / Free and Premium)

  • Group exchange: We can exchange Pokémon with nearby players that we have added as friends in Pokémon Home. It will be as simple as adding from “Add friends”. (Plans: Basic / Free and Premium)

  • Exchange with friends: Option to exchange Pokémon directly with nearby users added from the “Add friends” function. These are not in a group but individually between the two involved. (Plans: Basic / Free and Premium)

Other functions in Pokémon HOME

  • National Pokédex: “Coaches will be able to see all the Pokédex entries of several games. With the mobile version, users can also search according to the abilities or movements of the Pokémon, ”as if it were an Interactive Pokédex. (Plans: Basic / Free and Premium)

  • Mysterious Gift: Coaches can receive gifts directly from Pokémon HOME, which will then be transferred to the edition of the game we have (Sword or Shield). Everything will be automatically saved in HOME as a backup in the cloud. (Plans: Basic / Free and Premium)

  • Judge: As in Sword and Shield when we unlock the Judge function, in Pokémon HOME we will have this feature to analyze the genetics (IVs) of our Pokémon. (Premium plan only)

Pokémon HOME

  • Personal corner: A kind of bulletin board where you can know all the active events (such as tournaments, news …) and the games connected with Pokémon HOME. This space can be decorated with stickers, which will be achieved when performing tasks or accomplishing achievements yet to be determined. (Plans: Basic / Free and Premium)

  • Combat data: In the mobile version of Pokémon HOME, you can check the status of the Combat Combats and Online Tournaments of Pokémon Sword and Shield, as well as the lists of Pokémon being used. It will be possible to also see statistics of each Coach, popular movements, trends … (Plans: Basic / Free and Premium)

  • Notices and points: Pokémon HOME will serve as a notification center in your mobile app, so we will know when there are new Online Tournaments. Likewise, points will be accumulated as we deposit Pokémon in the service; some points that can be exchanged for Battle Points (PB) in Sword and Shield. (Plans: Basic / Free and Premium)
