Pokémon Sword and Shield: all about the Expansion Pass - The Isle of Armor

This coming June the adventure continues in the Galar region with the first part of the DLC. Everything you should know about this territory.

During the Nintendo Direct held on June 26, Nintendo Switch users saw a new trailer for the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass, a DLC that will consist of two parts (one in June and one in the fall); but of the first of which we already know practically everything. In this article, we are going to review everything we know about The Island of Armor so that each owner of these installments can help themselves decide whether or not to get hold of it.

The island of Armor: beyond Galar

To the east of the Galar region is the Isle of Armor, this first territory that we will visit in June as part of the Sword and Shield Pokémon Expansion Pass. It is a “giant island” where we will have environments never seen before in Galar: beaches, forests, swamps, caves and sand dunes; all recreated in the form of a Wilderness Area, the open environment with freedom of movement.

In addition, this Island has a somewhat particular specialized training dojo, which reminds us of the traditional Battle Tower of the saga. To this we must add at least 100 new Pokémon not present in the Galar region (which has 400 at the moment of the entire National Pokédex) of previous generations.

New Gigamax shapes

When the Expansion Pass is released, some Pokémon may incorporate the Gigamax form, as is the case with the initials of Galar in its latest evolution. Thus, we will have Rillaboom Gigamax (Gigarredoble attack), Cinderace Gigamax (attack Gigantic Sphere) and Inteleon Gigamax (attack Gigadisparo).

Training dojo: get Kubfu

The combat dojo will be a building where we can meet other Galar trainers with the goal of challenging them in combat, improving our skills and achieving victory. The reward of this place is the Pokémon Kubfu, which we will obtain from the master Mostaz.

When we participate in training with him, we will be given special permission to participate in the Pugna Towers Challenge. You will have to choose one of the two: the Tower of Shadow or the Tower of Waters. When we overcome all the challenges, Kubfu will evolve in Urshifu. If you chose the Tower of Shadow, it will learn Rough Style, but if your choice was the Tower of Waters, it will learn Fluid Style.

To this we have to add the arrival of new designs for the League Cards and a gift to buy the Expansion Pass before its launch. This condition therefore affects both DLCs: “As you progress through your adventure in The Isle of Armor and The Snows in the Crown, new backgrounds, effects and frames that were not available in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield will be added. Thanks to the Rotomi Tom Card, Trainers will be able to combine the new designs with the different sets of clothes and hairstyles to create a unique League Card ”.

Finally, it should be added that those who buy the Pokemon Sword: expansion pass or Pokémon Shield: expansion pass (if you have two games you must buy two passes), or those who already have it reserved will receive Lionel's cap and leggings as a gift. The deadline for this promotion is August 31.

The Isle of Armor will arrive in June 2020 as part one of the Expansion Pass; The second part is Las nieves de la corona and it will arrive in autumn with many other novelties,
