Project Cars 3 rules out ray tracing and cross-platform play

Slightly Mad Studios assures that the game is intended for the current generation and that it will not offer such features on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Project Cars 3, the third installment in Slightly Mad Studios’ driving and simulation saga, now together with Bandai Namco, will not offer features such as ray tracing or crossplay. This has been assured by one of its managers in a recent interview, confirming that the game has been developed exclusively for the current generation, adapting to the possibilities offered by both PS4 and Xbox One.

The current consoles “are not ready”

Thus, Joseph Barron, head of marketing and electronic sports at Slightly Mad Studios, has assured in recent statements that Project Cars 3 focuses on the possibilities currently offered by both PS4 and Xbox One, current generation consoles, and that for that reason they have ruled out the use of ray tracing, a technology that according to Barron does not fully adapt to both platforms.

And is that according to Barron, the top priority of the study was to provide stability at a rate of 60 images per second, a crucial aspect in a driving video game like Project Cars 3, thus ruling out other secondary graphic characteristics, such as ray tracing itself: ” The framerate is crucial in racing simulation ”, admits Barron, thus justifying the absence of other graphic technologies such as ray tracing itself.

On the other hand, Barron has also justified the absence of cross-play between the current platforms, ensuring that it has not been a priority in the systems in which Project Cars 3 will appear, but that we will “consider for future games”, explains the director of Slightly Mad Studios. Finally, he also rules out the use of DirectX 12 on PC and admits that at the moment there are no plans to bring the game to the new generation of consoles.

Project Cars 3 will hit the market on August 28 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
